Fabrizio Romano is suggesting that Chelsea’s transfer deadline day could still see one new arrival in even after the Mike Maignan deal has collapsed.
Romano has just dropped the bad news that the Mike Maignan to Chelsea deal is now OFF after a week of negotiations and Chelsea now failing to get that deal done.
Today is the day where the first summer transfer window closes after only being open from the start of June. But it’s not closed for long as it reopens again on June the 16th. This is just a chance for clubs to get deals done before the Club World Cup starts.
Chelsea have been busy trying to get deals done and doing various other bits of business in the last 10 days. One new signing, Mamadou Sarr, who was announced yesterday, has predictions over his head to become world class very soon.
They’ve also signed Liam Delap already of course, and Alan Shearer was full of praise for The Blues new young striker yesterday.

We’ve heard very little in the last day or two on Jamie Gittens to Chelsea, but it could still happen apparently. But equally, it could just happen later in the summer instead.
Romano posted on X:
‘After Maignan deal off for this short CWC window, Chelsea remain in active talks to sign Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
‘Also in this case, deal not guaranteed to happen by end of Deadline today — talks with BVB will continue.
‘Chelsea want JBG even if it’s later this summer. No rush.’
I think we might as well accept that they ain’t going to do this one. What a shame.
