Roma tried to land Federico Chiesa last summer but couldn’t strike a deal with him and Juventus, and he eventually ended up at Liverpool in a late flash transfer. However, his spell at Anfield isn’t going well. He could return to Serie A in a few months.
According to La Repubblica, the winger is held in his regard by director Florent Ghisolfi, who negotiated with his entourage, and also Claudio Ranieri, who will serve as a consultant after leaving the bench. He’ll have a say on the transfer market in addition to contributing to choosing his successor.
Roma are ready to ask for Chiesa on loan, and Liverpool would have to cover a significant portion of his €7.5M wages. The highest-paid players on the Giallorossi squad are close to that level but only because of dated contracts. They were more parsimonious with their more recent additions as the top one, Artem Dovbyk, pockets €3.5M annually.
The Italian winger, who has fallen off the Azzurri’s radar, has appeared just 11 times, starting on 5 occasions, notching 2 goals and 2 assists. He has missed extended time due to an injury and lack of conditioning earlier in the season. He has often been an unused sub lately.
His situation is unlikely to improve, so there’s little point in him rotting away with the Reds in the prime of his career. His salary is an issue, though. It’s too early to determine what the Giallorossi will need, as it’ll hinge on their next coach. Regardless of that, they should stay away from injury-prone players.
