Roma's hopes of securing Champions League football in 2025/26 received a massive boost after seeing off visiting Fiorentina in a 1-0 win.
Scorers: Dovbyk 45+5',
Claudio Ranieri's Giallorossi have enjoyed themselves since the turn of the year, and their 1-0 away win at Inter last time out gave them the boost they were looking for in the first half at Stadio Olimpico.
Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk would come up in a clutch moment when he pushed Roma into a late first-half lead in the fifth minute of added time when he got on the end of Eldor Shomurodov's headed pass to nod home from close range.
The evenly-contested affair moved into the second 45-minute period, with both managers making a single change to freshen up matters on the pitch.
Neither side could do enough to break the deadlock heading into the final 10 minutes of action, with both Ranieri and Raffaele Palladino making further changes in a bid to either push or rewrite the narrative in the Italian capital, including the introduction of former Italian starlet Stephan El Shaarawy in the 77th minute.
Despite five minutes of stoppage time added on, Roma would hold on to their narrow lead to secure a vital three-point haul in front of home support.
Per Opta, Ranieri's side have booked 1-0 wins more than any other club in the top five European leagues (9) in 2024/25.
With this result, Roma temporarily pushes into the top four and ahead of Lazio due to goal difference, while Fiorentina sits in 8th while enjoying a five-point cushion ahead of struggling Milan.
