Roma director Florent Ghisolfi fumed at the referee during post-match interviews, saying that the Giallorossi were denied a ‘clear’ penalty against Monza.

Ivan Juric’s Roma were held to a 1-1 draw by Serie A strugglers Monza, the only team without a league win this term.

Aretem Dovbyk opened the account in the second half, but Dany Mota levelled the score less than ten minutes later.

The Giallorossi thought they deserved a penalty kick in the final minutes when Giorgos Kyriakopoulos collided with Tommaso Baldanzi inside the box while trying to win an aerial duel.

“I am not accustomed to talking about the referee, but everyone saw it, and it’s unacceptable. It was a clear penalty,” Ghisolfi told Sky Sport Italia, as quoted by ForzaRoma.info.

“Okay, the referee was far away, but why didn’t VAR intervene? It’s a penalty, and you all saw that. I demand respect for Roma, the players’ efforts, and those of the coach and the fans. There was frustration in the dressing room. We want respect, it’s not acceptable.”

The Roma director said the referee didn’t explain his decision after the game.

“Not for now, but we’ll ask for clarification as soon as possible.”

Ghisolfi protests continued on DAZN too.

“I usually don’t come here to cry, but what happened is unacceptable. The contact on Baldanzi was evident,” he insisted.

“I couldn’t talk to the referee. Clearly, Baldanzi is upset because it was a clear foul. We are respectful people, but not for this reason we expect less respect.”

Roma have  10 points in the opening seven games and have only won two Serie A games this season.

Their next game after the international break is against Inter at the Stadio Olimpico on October 20.
