The victory not only improved their standings in the competition but also showcased their ability to adapt and overcome difficult situations.

“We’ve taken a breather, it was a very important match in which we needed the victory. We got it by working hard,” said the forward.

Rodrygo acknowledged the unique playing style of Atalanta, noting that their approach created challenges for Real Madrid.

However, he also highlighted how the team managed to exploit the spaces left by the Serie A leaders, which proved crucial in securing the win. The effort and determination displayed by the players were key factors in their success.

“Atalanta play in a different way to what we are used to. It is a bit difficult but it also gives us a lot of space which we have used well to win,” he added.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois offered an update on Kylian Mbappe’s condition after the French star had to leave the pitch in the 35th minute due to a muscle issue.

Courtois assured fans that the injury does not appear to be serious and expressed optimism that Mbappe would recover in time for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup final.

Although Mbappe may miss the weekend match, the team remains hopeful about his availability for the important fixture.

“He felt the muscle contracting a little but I don’t think it’s serious. He stopped at the right time. We might lose him for the weekend but I don’t think he’ll lose him for later,” said the keeper.

Reflecting on the match, Courtois underlined the significance of the win, especially given the challenging circumstances.

Playing against Atalanta, who are not only excelling in Serie A but also performing strongly in the Champions League, was no easy task. Real Madrid started well, creating chances and scoring the opening goal.

“We knew it was a very difficult pitch against the Serie A leaders, who were also doing very well in the Champions League.”

However, the team faced some setbacks, including conceding a penalty. Adjustments made during the half-time break helped them improve their performance in the second half and withstand Atalanta’s late attempts to equalise.

“We changed things in the locker room and in the second half we were better. We held up well against their last attempts,” he noted.

Brahim Diaz’s note

Lastly, Brahim Diaz, who provided the assist for Mbappe’s goal, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.

He emphasised that Real Madrid thrives in high-stakes matches and that the squad is determined to continue delivering strong results.

“We are made to play these games, we have shown it and we have won. This team has a lot to give and will give much more.”

He highlighted the collective effort of the team, from the goalkeeper to the forwards, as a testament to their commitment and quality.

Real Madrid now aims to approach the remaining group stage matches one at a time, with the goal of accumulating 15 points and securing a strong position in the competition.

“We’re going to take it game by game, we want to get to 15 points and then we’ll see. Right now things are going the way they should, everyone doing their bit, from Thibaut to the forwards.

“This is Madrid, let it end when it ends. This has only just begun,” he noted.

The victory against Atalanta serves as a reminder of the resilience and potential of this team as they navigate the challenges of the Champions League.
