The club shared a social media post on Wednesday showcasing the special ‘father-son’ dynamic between two of their key players—Rodrygo and Luka Modric—who have a 15-year age gap.

To mark the occasion, Real Madrid posted a heartwarming image featuring the 24-year-old Brazilian forward and the Croatian midfield veteran, who is 39.

The photo captured a moment of celebration, with the two players embracing after scoring a goal. The club captioned the image with a Father’s Day greeting, further amplifying the lighthearted and affectionate relationship between the two.

Greeting each other

Alongside the official post, the interaction between Rodrygo and Modric on social media added a personal touch to the tribute. Rodrygo shared a message acknowledging the occasion by tagging Modric and extending Father’s Day wishes to him.

“Happy Father’s Day @luka modric10,” wrote the forward.

In response, Modric playfully thanked him, reinforcing the running joke that exists between them within the squad.

“Thank you very much, son,” the midfielder responded.

The origins of this playful ‘father-son’ relationship go back to a conversation between the two players. During an interview, Rodrygo explained the story behind this affectionate nickname.

“One day, talking to Luka, he found out that my father is only one year older than him. He was very surprised and told me that ‘only one year? Then you must respect me because I could be your father.’

“From then on, he started calling me son and me him father,” he revealed.

While the nickname started as a joke, it reflects the close bond between the two players, both on and off the pitch.

Their connection is not just about words but is evident in their understanding during matches, their mutual respect, and the camaraderie they share in the dressing room.
