Liverpool Closing In on Florian Wirtz as Andy Robertson Shares His Verdict

Wirtz Edging Closer to Anfield Arrival

Liverpool appear to be on the cusp of sealing a transformative transfer, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz heavily linked with a sensational summer switch to Anfield. The 22-year-old German international, long hailed as one of Europe’s most gifted attacking midfielders, is expected to become the most expensive player in Premier League history.

Reports suggest the fee could rise to an eye-watering €150 million, around £126.4 million, including performance-related add-ons. That would eclipse Chelsea’s record £115 million outlay for Moisés Caicedo and comfortably shatter Liverpool’s own previous transfer benchmark.

While official confirmation is yet to arrive, whispers within the corridors of both clubs suggest a deal is in its final stages, with Wirtz reportedly set to undergo his medical in the coming days.

Robertson Impressed by Midfield Maestro

Andy Robertson, speaking at a charity golf day in aid of his AR26 Foundation, offered a measured but glowing assessment of the player many expect to line up alongside him next season.

“He was excellent against us [Scotland vs Germany], I do remember that and I remember that game was extremely tough for us,” the Liverpool left-back told Sky Sports.

“He was excellent, he was the one causing us problems, in the half-spaces, running in behind, so I haven’t seen too much of him but I have played against him and that was enough for me to see he was going to be a top player.”

Robertson also recalled facing Wirtz during Liverpool’s encounters with Leverkusen in Europe, though the Reds fared better in that contest. “We dominated that game a bit more and made it difficult but certainly in the German team against us, he was excellent.”

Liverpool’s Midfield Evolution Continues

The prospective arrival of Wirtz would add another layer of creativity and dynamism to a Liverpool midfield already undergoing significant evolution. After a transitional year under new management and with several key players approaching their peak, Wirtz’s versatility and intelligence in the final third could be the final piece in the puzzle.

“We’re certainly linked with him, that is for sure, you can’t miss it and not see it,” Robertson added. “But if we get it through then an exciting one in and we have a lot of exciting talent in there.”

“He is a right good player and he will help us and if he does get through the door then it’s exciting.”

Strategic Statement from Liverpool

Should the deal go through, Liverpool’s investment in Wirtz would signal more than just financial muscle. It would be a statement of intent, a clear sign that the club intends to challenge at the very top of English and European football once again.

In Wirtz, Liverpool would not only be signing a player of immense technical quality but also someone who appears tailor-made for the high-intensity, incisive football the Anfield faithful demand.
