Robert Lewandowski has reached an agreement with Barcelona to remain with the club until at least the summer of 2026, a report in Spain has claimed.

The Poland international has been heavily linked with a move away from Barcelona, with many reports suggesting the fact he will soon turn 37 had sparked the Blaugrana's desire to part ways with Lewandowski at the end of the season.

Lewandowski, however, has publicly played down the speculation and has insisted he wants to continue with Barcelona for the foreseeable future.

The exact terms of Lewandowski's Barcelona contract have been a mystery for a while now. It was initially rumoured to expire in 2025, but with a 12-month extension clause that would be automatically triggered if he plays over half of his side's games this season - something which will happen against Rayo Vallecano next Monday.

However, SPORT stress that Lewandowski's contract actually runs until 2026 and Barcelona have the option to terminate his deal this summer if he does not play a sufficient number of games.

Lewandowski is set to breeze past the minimum threshold of appearances needed to extend his stay in Catalonia into the 2025/26 season but, according to Mundo Deportivo, the uncertainty was removed recently when Barcelona and Lewandowski reached a verbal agreement to continue together next year anyway.

The veteran striker has not hidden his desire to remain at the club, while his family are also planning for a future in Barcelona as well, while those in charge of the team are not concerned about an imminent drop in performance from Lewandowski.

After 33 games this season, Lewandowski sits on 31 goals and three assists, retaining his status as one of the best strikers in the world as he approaches his 37th birthday.

Just what the future holds for Lewandowski beyond 2026 is unclear. It is stressed that his agreement with Barcelona does not include a new extension clause, with both sides seemingly envisaging a parting of ways in 18 months.
