Neymar’s current contract with Santos is set to run out at the end of June 2025, meaning he will be free to negotiate with any club of his choosing.

With this in mind, discussions about a possible return to Barcelona have gained traction in recent weeks.

Given his past success with the club and his current performances, speculation has intensified regarding where he might play next season.

Rivaldo weighs in

Former Barcelona star Rivaldo has weighed in on the matter, offering his thoughts on Neymar’s potential next move.

According to him, Neymar remains an exceptional talent, and his recent displays for Santos demonstrate that he still possesses the ability to perform at the highest level.

“Neymar is a great player, and I really like his style of play. If he maintains what we’re seeing at Santos—scoring goals and gaining momentum—he still has a place at any team in the world,” he said as quoted by AS.

If a return to Barcelona does not materialise, Rivaldo believes Neymar will still have opportunities to join one of Europe’s elite teams when his contract ends.

“If it’s not Barcelona, where he made history and where everyone already knows him, he’ll go to a big European club by midyear,” he added.

What is Barcelona’s stance?

Although Neymar’s name has been mentioned in connection with Barcelona, reports suggest that the club does not currently have any concrete plans to bring him back.

Club president Joan Laporta, along with other senior figures, have reportedly discussed Neymar’s situation, but there is no active effort to re-sign him.

Given Barcelona’s financial constraints and their long-term squad-building strategy, a reunion seems unlikely at this stage.

Above all, even sporting director Deco and manager Hansi Flick seem to share the opinion that at this moment, acquiring Neymar would bring nothing good to the team.
