Inter Milan are ready to move for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-Jae if Stefan de Vrij heads for the exit door.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper report that the Nerazzurri’s plan would be to loan the 27-year-old.

Inter are bracing themselves for the possibility of a big offer for defender de Vrij.

The 32-year-old former Lazio defender is on the radar of Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad. Former Inter and AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is keen on making him this summer’s big defensive reinforcement.

Therefore, Inter are aware that they could face a decision as far as whether to cash in on de Vrij.

And if the 32-year-old is to leave, then Inter would aim to sign a player with a similar profile to replace him.

The Nerazzurri would be looking for a physical defender capable of playing at the centre of a back three.

According to the Gazzetta, Inter would be ready to try and bring an old transfer target back to Serie A.

Inter Plot Swoop For Bayern Defender Kim Min-Jae If Stefan De Vrij Leaves

Inter have already targeted Bayern defender Kim Min-Jae in the past.

The South Korean international had been on the Nerazzurri’s radar in the summer of 2022, when he was a Fenerbahce player.

Min-Jae had been a target for Inter to replace either Milan Skriniar or Alessandro Bastoni if they were to have left that summer.

But in the end, the South Korean joined Napoli.

Then, last summer, Min-Jae joined German giants Bayern Munich.

However, the South Korean has not really shown his best form at the Allianz Arena. He did not start consistently over the second half of last season.

Moreover, Bayern signed defender Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in January – hardly a demonstration of faith in Min-Jae as the Englishman was preferred in key matches.

Accordingly, it looks very possible that Min-Jae could leave Bayern this summer.

And in that event, Inter would certainly see the 27-year-old as a replacement for de Vrij.

The Nerazzurri would aim to exploit their good relationship with Bayern.

The Gazzetta report that Inter could ask for an initial paid loan deal, similar to the one which saw them bring back Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in 2022.

As part of such a loan deal, there could be either a purchase option, or a gentleman’s agreement to negotiate a permanent transfer next summer.
