Inter Milan owners Oaktree are seemingly committed to launching the reserve team project for the 2025/26 season.
According to Calciomercato, the American fund’s ambitious plan is progressing steadily at Viale della Liberazione.
Looking at AC Milan’s Primavera, the defending Serie A champions are eager to have a reserve team competing in league football.
Indeed, the Rossoneri’s second team has joined Serie C this season.
The Nerazzurri are now keen to follow in the footsteps of their neighbors.
However, there’s a catch.
Inter must wait for a slot in Italy’s third-tier division to open up before submitting their proposal.
Despite this hurdle, Inter have taken the first steps toward a demanding project, looking to create a competitive reserve team.
A significant challenge for Inter in implementing this initiative is finding suitable training facilities.
President Beppe Marotta has noted this issue several times.
For the time being, the plan is for the second team to train in the mornings at Interello.
However, the long-term idea of building new infrastructure, possibly extending Appiano Gentile, is gaining momentum.
It will require Inter to acquire additional land.
Meanwhile, they are exploring possible venues for matches, with the Varesina fields among the options currently under review.
Dario Baccin is the leading candidate to oversee the sporting project for the second team.
But the search for a coach is ongoing.
Former treble winner with Inter Christian Chivu ranks highly on the club’s shortlist.
Chivu is no stranger to coaching roles at Giuseppe Meazza.
Indeed, he was the Primavera coach between 2021 and 2024 before exiting the club in the summer.
In addition to the ex-Romanian defender, Samir Handanovic could stake his claim for the post.
The Slovenian has been in charge of the U-17 team since August and is well-familiar with the environment.
