Empoli must pay a fee of €5 million to sign striker Sebastiano Esposito on a permanent basis from Inter Milan.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They note that the Nerazzurri don’t have a buyback option, but due have a sell-on clause.
This evening, Esposito will face his parent club Inter.
The Nerazzurri host Empoli, and the 22-year-old striker will be a familiar face in the Tuscan club’s lineup.
Esposito joined Empoli on loan during the summer transfer window.
This was the first Serie A club that the Italy Under-21 international has been at on loan. He had previously had spells at SPAL, Venezia, Bari, and Sampdoria in Serie B.
There were also spells with Basel and Anderlecht abroad.
Esposito came through the youth academy system of Inter.
The young striker never had much of a role in the Nerazzurri first team, however. He did, though, make a first team debut under Antonio Conte during the 2019-20 season.
But joining Empoli has proven the right move for Esposito to establish himself in Serie A.
And the Tuscan club can sign him on a permanent basis next summer, ending his long tenure with Inter.
The fee that Empoli must pay Inter to sign Esposito permanently would be €5 million.
As the Gazzetta note, there would be no option for Inter to buy the 22-year-old right back.
However, the newspaper further report, there is a sell-on clause. 20% of any future transfer fee that Empoli receive for Esposito would go to Inter.
