Despite fears that AC Milan’s Champions League hopes were dead, it seems the top four could still be achieved, but the Rossoneri have to overcome several battles.
In a season where almost everything has gone wrong for Milan, there is still a chance that success can be found. However, the Rossoneri will need to be almost perfect for the final games – something which is unlikely.
Throughout the year, the word consistency has been the frustrating theme, with the Diavolo struggling to put together results on a regular basis, but considering what is at stake, it may be when consistency is found.
As Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan Press) write, the points tally required this season may be 72 points, but it could be as low as 68 points as six fight for a place in the top four, given that several teams in the picture need to play each other. With these numbers, it would mean that Milan need to pick up a minimum of 21 points in their final nine games of the season – six wins and three draws, or seven wins and two losses.
Corriere della Sera, relayed by the same source, states that the club are potentially the ‘strongest team’ in the race, but this has not been seen regularly. For the final two months, they must ‘plug in’ if they want a Champions League place, starting this weekend.
