Several sources are now confirming that Igli Tare met with Giorgio Furlani in Rome on Tuesday, and that he is likely to be the new sporting director.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Tare did meet the CEO in the capital today. It was a conversation between the pair that lasted more than four hours, starting in the late morning and continuing until the afternoon.

The duo met and discussed the world of Milan in all aspects, and it has been described as a ‘very positive’ dialogue. There is no definitive agreement yet, but the parties will remain in contact in the coming days to decide if this is the right fit.

In the meantime, Milan will have to implement a series of formal steps to define the agreement that will have to be shared by all the components of the management. The first step was an in-person meeting between Furlani and Tare, after the telephone contacts that have taken place in the past.

It is not the first time that Tare has spoken to leading figures at Milan though: earlier in the year he had talks in London with the owner Gerry Cardinale and senior advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that there will not be ‘less than three’ meetings before the handshakes arrive. In this first discussion there was no talk about Tare’s contract for example, and that Cardinale will soon enter the discussions.

Tare is the only one among the names being monitored that is free from contract, meaning he could immediately start planning next season. With a coach to choose and a mercato strategy to deploy, time is of the essence.

So, when will the decision come? After Easter, for sure. Milan will be on the field on Sunday night against Atalanta and then on Wednesday in the Coppa Italia derby against Inter. Sky meanwhile agree with the two aforementioned sources regarding today’s events.
