Spurs Injury Update: Son, Van de Ven and Danso Fitness Concerns

Tottenham Hotspur are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel in their battle with injuries, but there remain key players sidelined as Ange Postecoglou manages his squad through a crucial period. After a much-needed 1-0 victory over Manchester United, Spurs fans will hope their side can build momentum with key players returning in the coming weeks. However, there are still significant absences that continue to trouble the squad.

Son’s Fitness Monitored Ahead of Ipswich Clash

Spurs captain Heung-min Son was forced off late in the win over Manchester United, raising concerns over his availability. However, Postecoglou moved to calm fears, indicating the injury is not expected to be serious.

“[They] all got sort of knocks. I don’t think it is anything significant,” Postecoglou reassured when asked about Son, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Kevin Danso.

The South Korean forward remains a vital figure for Spurs, and with a week-long break before their next fixture, the hope is that he will recover in time.

Potential return date: Ipswich (A) – February 22, 2025

Van de Ven’s Return Carefully Managed

Micky van de Ven has been sidelined despite making a brief return last month in Spurs’ 3-0 Europa League win over Elfsborg. Postecoglou has opted for caution in his recovery, ensuring the Dutch defender returns fully fit without risk of recurrence.

“With Micky, we made a decision, and I was certainly the catalyst of that, to just have a look at exactly beyond the injury how we can get him back in a good spot,” Postecoglou explained. “It’s not as much about the injury as about the mechanics of him because we want him back and we want him back in a real good space.”

Van de Ven has been training and feeling good, and while no official return date has been confirmed, Spurs remain confident his comeback is imminent.

Potential return date: March 2025

Romero and Solanke Nearing Full Recovery

Cristian Romero has returned to training but, like Van de Ven, will not be rushed back into action. His recovery has taken longer than expected, but Postecoglou is taking a cautious approach to prevent further setbacks.

“With Romero it has been a healing issue. The injury hadn’t healed up as quickly as we thought it would,” the Spurs boss explained. “We will get some clear indication as to his healing and depending on that his return could be imminent as well.”

Similarly, Dominic Solanke continues his recovery from a knee injury sustained in January. Postecoglou hinted that the striker is not far from a return, though he has yet to feature in training.

“If it’s not then, it won’t be much after. We’ve got an international break so it won’t be much after that. I would include Dom [Solanke] in that as well. He’s in a similar sort of boat.”

Richarlison and Dragusin Face Lengthy Spells Out

Richarlison was forced off against Liverpool and could be sidelined for weeks. Postecoglou confirmed the Brazilian’s frustration at yet another setback.

“[Richarlison] was emotional last night because he’d worked really hard to get back. It’s another setback. We’re going to have to deal with him and get him back,” the manager said.

Meanwhile, Radu Dragusin’s season is over after suffering an ACL injury during the Elfsborg game. The Romanian defender had only recently broken into the side, making this a significant blow for both player and club.

Werner and Danso Expected Back Soon

Timo Werner remains on course for a February return, though he has been removed from the club’s Europa League squad. Kevin Danso, meanwhile, limped off against Manchester United but is expected to recover in time for the next fixture.

With Postecoglou’s squad gradually returning to full strength, Spurs will be hopeful of maintaining their push for a strong finish to the season.

Potential return dates:

  • Werner: February 2025
  • Danso: Ipswich (A) – February 22, 2025
