Report reveals the current situation of exits at Barcelona

Next season, FC Barcelona are expected to compete for every single title possible. After having a successful domestic campaign last season, La Blaugrana will want to aim even higher this time around. To do that, however, Barcelona will need the right kind of squad to compete.

Fortunately, the club has done well to reinforce the squad this summer. Beyond just signing Joan Garcia as a new goalkeeper, the Catalan giants have also brought in the likes of Roony Bardghji, as well as English forward Marcus Rashford who joins on a loan deal.

However, beyond just signings, there is also the matter of exits to sort out this summer. While it might not be necessary to acquire other players, given that Joan Laporta has already confirmed that there will be no more signings, exits could still prove to be crucial to registering players for next season.

Three exits for Barcelona to sort out

According to Mundo Deportivo, moreover, there are three cases in particular where an exit is expected but the concerns of the club are what differentiate the treatments for all three operations. While one case is rather straightforward, the other two are still being sorted.

The most straightforward and obvious exit seems to be that of Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu. Already excluded from the preseason tour, a decision that has reportedly not gone down well with him, the Spaniard is expected to finalise his exit and be on his way out this summer.

Another rather clear case seems to be that of Andreas Christensen. While the Danish defender’s commitment is appreciated within Barcelona, the club understands that a suitable offer for him could be valuable considering that his contract expires in 2026.

Keeping that in mind, Barça would rather sell him for a transfer fee now than lose him for free next summer. Moreover, he is not exactly one of the first names on the team sheet anymore either, so an exit for him could help open up some valuable salary space as well.

The special case of Inaki Pena

Lastly, the case of Inaki Pena is one where Barcelona are hoping for a late exit. That is because the Spaniard and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen are the only goalkeepers currently registered for Barcelona, whereas both Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny are yet to be registered.

Thus, as a precaution, Pena will stay until the registrations of the two other goalkeepers can be confirmed. Moreover, with Ter Stegen undergoing surgery, Pena is essentially the only useable goalkeeper that Barcelona have right now in terms of being registered.
