Manchester United’s search for defensive reinforcements is well underway, with CaughtOffside reporting the club is eyeing Inter Milan’s Yann Bisseck. The 24-year-old German centre-back has emerged as a target not just for United, but also for Premier League rivals Tottenham and West Ham. With Everton and Bournemouth also registering interest, Bisseck is clearly a man in demand.
It’s no surprise United are exploring their options. The contracts of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are set to expire this summer, and their departures would leave Ruben Amorim – or whoever is in charge – worryingly short at the back. Bisseck, standing at 6’5″ and boasting both physical presence and technical quality, is reported to be available for around €55 million.

As one source told CaughtOffside, “Bisseck is one of a number of names being considered by the Red Devils, but no contacts have started yet, nor have any offers been made.”
Bisseck’s availability has understandably turned heads. Inter Milan, despite their Champions League ambitions, appear willing to part ways with the defender if their valuation is met. At €55m, it’s a price tag that reflects both his potential and the strong campaign he’s had in Serie A.
“There clearly looks to be a market for the Germany international,” notes CaughtOffside, “with United having monitored him in recent times, while Spurs and West Ham also like him.”
Spurs, currently rebuilding under Ange Postecoglou, are known to be prioritising young, athletic defenders capable of playing out from the back. West Ham, meanwhile, are likely to undergo a squad overhaul this summer. Bisseck would be a statement of intent.
Still, of the clubs mentioned, Manchester United remain the most intriguing – and arguably the most desperate.
The German is part of an Inter Milan side that continues to fight for European glory and domestic dominance. So why would he leave?
Playing time appears to be the answer. At 24, Bisseck is at a pivotal stage in his career. While breaking into Inter’s starting XI has been difficult, he’s shown enough to attract serious interest.
“Inter seem open to doing business for Bisseck this summer,” the report states, “with the feeling being that they would clear him to move on if they receive offers in the region of €55m.”
For Bisseck, the appeal of the Premier League is obvious. But is joining a turbulent Manchester United, inconsistent Tottenham, or fragile West Ham the best decision? That’s the dilemma. As CaughtOffside rightly suggests, “United and Tottenham have had really poor seasons, so it looks like a bit of a gamble to join them right now.”
From a Manchester United supporter’s perspective, this potential move for Yann Bisseck is exactly the kind of calculated gamble the club should be taking. Too many summers have been spent chasing marquee names instead of recruiting players hungry to prove themselves.
Bisseck’s profile fits the bill: young, already experienced in Europe, physically commanding, and with untapped potential. While €55m might seem steep, in today’s market – and considering United’s historic tendency to overpay for less – this could turn out to be smart business.
That said, the timing of the move will be critical. United need to act decisively, not just for Bisseck’s sake but to signal a change in how this club operates. Waiting until late July or August, as has so often been the case, risks losing out again to more efficient competitors.
The concerns about Bisseck choosing a club in transition are real. But perhaps that’s the very reason he should pick United – to help build something, to become a leader rather than a squad player. If the project is sold right, and if United show real conviction, this could be a defining signing in a long-overdue defensive rebuild.
