Beppe Marotta must convince Oaktree Capital to loosen the purse strings at Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

This is the view of Italian newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInter1908. They suggest that the Nerazzurri will have to spend in the summer if they are to keep up at the top of the Serie A table.

In the last couple transfer windows, Inter have not been terribly active.

Having radically overhauled the squad in the summer of 2023, it has just been fine-tuning ever since.

Last summer, Inter continued their penchant for free transfer signings. They signed the likes of Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski to bolster the squad depth.

Meanwhile, the likes of Josep Martinez, Tomas Palacios, and Nicola Zalewski have arrived. These are clear indications of Oaktree’s intention to focus on young signings.

On the other hand, Palacios left on loan in January. As did Tajon Buchanan, who had only joined Inter last January.

Therefore, Inter’s squad has become very settled. Arguably too much so – particularly for the medium-term future.

Marotta Must Convince Oaktree To Sanction Summer Spending At Inter Milan

In the meantime, Inter’s rivals at the top end of the Serie A table have not been shy about spending.

Juventus and AC Milan in particular have splashed the cash to improve their squads. But so have the likes of Atalanta, Napoli, Lazio, and Roma.

Sooner or later, those rivals could really start to close the gap on Inter.

So the Nerazzurri certainly must think about the future. They need to freshen up an aging squad, and not just with players with unrealized potential.

Inter have already wrapped up a deal to sign Petar Sucic from Dinamo Zagreb. The Croat will arrive next summer.

That shows the kind of business that the Nerazzurri are planning to do moving forward.

But that is only one signing. Inter will need more than that.

Therefore, it will be up to Inter President Beppe Marotta to convince club owners Oaktree Capital to commit to some big business over the coming months.
