Chelsea are trying to get ahead of Arsenal in the race for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres according to reports.

The Blues are set for another busy summer and could look to offload as many as seven or eight players in order to fund their moves in the market.

Chelsea face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to improve Enzo Maresca’s squad.

After failing to sign a striker for the last two windows an alternative to Nicolas Jackson is absolutely the main priority this summer.

Chelsea have been linked with a host of names including Liam Delap and Benajmin Sesko, but have yet to make their mind up over who they will move for.

The Blues are said to have five man short list, and although Gyokeres doesn’t feature he’s said to be a name of interest, but Chelsea face a tough task signing the Sweden international.

Arsenal are said to be ahead of the Blues in the race, but Portuguese outlet A Bola have reported Chelsea are trying to position themselves ahead of the Gunners for the 26-year-old’s signature.

The report adds Arsenal are the main suitors, but the Blues are also making a move and keeping a close eye on the situation, with Gyokeres certain to leave Sporting this summer and likely to be available for €70m.

Gyokeres is one of Europe’s hottest strikers and has scored 47 goals and provided 11 assists in 46 games in all competitions this season.

Chelsea seemingly have a good relationship with Sporting having agreed to sign Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from the Portuguese giants last month.

Signing Gyokeres would be a huge coup, and the Blues have previously been linked with the Swede, but if they are to stand any chance they will almost certainly have to offer Champions League football.
