Rennes launching feasibility study for building new stadium | OneFootball

Stade Rennais are reportedly exploring the possibility of moving out of Roazhon Park and building a brand-new stadium at Rennes, according to a report from Ouest-France.

It is no secret by now that the ambitious Ligue 1 club is starting to outgrow the 29,000-strong Roazhon Park. Bar a Ligue 1 game last January against Nice, Les Rouge et Noir have been playing in a sold-out ground for the past 18 months, which means that Stade Rennais are bound to refuse hundreds if not thousands of applications for season ticket holders.

Recently, the club’s higher-ups raised the topic of an extension of the Roazhon Park, which is owned by the City. However, the stadium is located on the banks of the Vilaine River and near Rennes’ ring road, making the prospect of months-long heavy work difficult to envision.

Ouest-France are now reporting that Stade Rennais have launched a feasibility study for the building of a brand-new stadium. The ground would be located near Roazhon Park, in an industrial wasteland opposite the ring road west of Rennes. The outlet understands that the proposed stadium’s capacity would get close to the 40,000 mark. Ouest-France adds that the club’s owner, billionaire luxury mogul François Pinault, would welcome the project.
