AS Monaco striker Breel Embolo (28) might not complete a Deadline Day switch to Ligue 1 rivals Rennes, despite an agreement being reached yesterday between the clubs over a €13m transfer fee. The 28-year-old Switzerland international had entered the final months of his contract with Adi Hütter’s Les Monégasques. AS Monaco were not opposed to selling Embolo, who has not been included in a matchday squad yet this season.

L’Equipe reports that Embolo was expected to undergo a medical and complete his move to Habib Beye’s Les Rouge et Noir, but the 28-year-old did not fly out to Brittany this morning. The deal to bring Embolo from Stade Louis-II to Roazhon Park is currently at a standstill. Given the urgency of the situation, with a couple of hours remaining before the end of the transfer window, Rennes have activated alternative targets to bolster Beye’s attacking options.
