Premier League legend Ian Wright has suggested Chelsea need to make a Thiago Silva type signing this summer to help their young squad.

Chelsea are once again set for a busy summer, and it’s thought they could look to sell as many as seven or eight players to fund their business.

It’s a critical window for the Blues as they look to sign a striker, right footed attacker and centre back to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Wright suggests Chelsea need Silva type signing

It will be interesting to see what Chelsea do, but the club desperately need players who can come in and make a difference.

Despite the talent in the Chelsea squad, there’s a lack of leadership and experience and Wright’s claimed they need to make a signing like Silva.

Silva bid an emotional farewell to Chelsea last summer.

“Remember they signed Thiago Silva a few years ago, they need experience,” he told The Kelly and Wrighty show.

“I think the midfield and defence, they do need an experienced player to let them know what’s going on on the pitch and calm them down.”

Silva left last summer after four years at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues are yet to replace what the veteran Brazilian gave them both on and off the pitch.

Former Blue Shaun Wright-Phillips believe the club should have kept Silva, and it’s hard to argue against that at this point.

There’s expected to be a lot of movement at centre back with Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah and Renato Veiga candidates to leave.

The Blues have been strongly linked with Dean Huijsen, who’s available for £50m, but that doesn’t address the leadership and experience issues.

Chelsea are said to still be keen on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, who will have just a year left on his contract in the summer.

Guehi would certainly help with leadership and experience, and he knows the club having come through the ranks at Stamford Bridge, but it will be interesting to see what Chelsea decide to do.
