Tijjani Reijnders’ importance to AC Milan has been easily noticeable this season, and today he spoke about the club’s season, whilst also reminiscing on his relationship with Stefano Pioli.

It is no surprise to see the Dutch midfielder join Sergio Conceicao in his second press conference, after all, a leader was picked in his first with Mike Maignan, and the same trend has followed on this occasion.

Reijnders has rose massively since he joined the club, and in a team that has been questioned about its leadership, seeing players like Reijnders step up for Milan and make themselves leaders has been a rare positive of this season.

Before the Supercoppa began, it had been deemed that the competition could be a restart for the Rossoneri, and with Gerry Cardinale desperate for a trophy, things could come to fruition.

Reijnders spoke about the opportunity to lift his first trophy with the Rossoneri in this morning’s press conference, his words have been relayed by Milan News.

Does beating Juventus in a comeback bring you closer with a good boost? “In the first half we weren’t aggressive enough in pressing and we didn’t take risks with the ball. In the second half we showed that we could do more, creating more chances.”

You met Pioli again, were you happy to see him again with many more goals to his name? “It was nice, we joked. You saw what he told me, for me it was a good season even if I had fewer chances to score. This year I play further forward.”

It would be your first trophy at Milan. “It’s a great opportunity, it would be nice and I have to play as if it were my last game. It doesn’t happen often that you can win a trophy, then we will have to think about the championship and the Champions League, it’s a good chance to change things.”

We saw Bennacer’s speech. Is that the spirit that you lacked at the start of the season? “No, the spirit has always been there. I think we have to gain more and more confidence and beating Juve gave us a good push in that sense. We have to feel like a family and that was a good sign.”
