Referee Luca Pairetto is facing criticism for his decision not to award Inter Milan a penalty against Bologna in yesterday’s Serie A clash.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, argue that the official was far too lenient towards the Rossoblu after a clash between Marcus Thuram and Lukas Skorupski in the area.
Early in the second half of yesterday’s match, Inter striker Thuram was through one-on-one with Bologna keeper Skorupski.
The Rossoblu keeper reacted. He came out to try and close down the angle for the Inter striker.
However, Thuram knocked the ball past Skorupski.
Skorupski was a bit late in coming out on Thuram. He was not able to get the ball – however, he did clatter into the striker,
Referee Luca Pairetto had a decent view of the coming-together between the two players.
And in the view of the referee, it was actually Thuram who had fouled Skorupski.
But in the view of the Corriere, this was not the correct decision.
It was the Polish international who had come out late with his challenge.
Therefore, the newspaper argue, it almost certainly should have been a penalty for Inter.
