For the second time this month, the Los Angeles Galaxy could not score on the Seattle Sounders. Instead of losing 4-0 like they did at the beginning of the month, the reigning MLS Cup winners were defeated 2-0. Apparently, revenge was not on the menu for the Galaxy on Wednesday night.
With Matheus Nascimento still out of action, LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney turned to Miguel Berry for the rare start. Spanish forward has two assists on the year and was a trusted sub on the bench for Vanney during the Galaxy's historic playoff run last season.
Last year, the Seattle Sounders also beat the LA Galaxy. In that contest, the Galaxy lost 3-1 as their Leagues Cup run was cut much earlier last year than this one. Still, the LA Galaxy have dropped another game to their MLS Western Conference rival from the Pacific Northwest.
Even without the Sounders' leading scorer during MLS play this year, the LA Galaxy could not contain Seattle's offensive attack. Danny Musovski has been suspended for the rest of the 2025 Leagues Cup due to an altercation in the Sounders' quarterfinal match against Puebla.
Seattle scored once in each half. Pedro de la Vega found the back of the net against Micovic in the game's 7th minute. Coincidentally, that's also when young LA Galaxy defender Harbor Miller scored recently against the Colorado Rapids.
Twelve minutes into the second half, a second goal went by Micovic. Osaze De Rosario doubled the deficit against the LA Galaxy, making it 2-0.
There was a glimmer of hope for Los Angeles late in the second half. Nouhou Tolo of the Sounders was ejected from the game as he was issued a red card in the 83rd minute. The Galaxy could not capitalize on the one-man advantage deep into the game.
With their match against FC Dallas already rescheduled for this weekend, the Los Angeles Galaxy can focus on beating Orlando City SC. The two semifinal runner-ups play for a chance to take third in the 2025 Leagues Cup Tournament.
In addition, with the third place comes an automatic bid for the 2026 CONCACAF Champions Cup. The LA Galaxy earned placement straight to the Round of 16 in this year's tournament as a result of their sixth MLS Cup title win in 2024.

The loss on Wednesday night puts the LA Galaxy into the Third-Place match against Orlando City SC. That game will take place on Sunday, August 31, at home.
These two teams faced each other f months ago at Dignity Health Sport. The Los Angeles Galaxy lost 2-1 against Orlando City SC. A chance for payback and a third-place finish is still on the table for Vanney and his soccer club.
