Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo has been unable to reproduce his Premier League form in the Championship so far this season.

Adebayo scored 10 goals in 27 appearances for the Hatters in the top flight last season, but he has only managed to find the net five times in 30 games in the second tier during the 2024/25 campaign so far.

The 27-year-old should really have scored more goals this season, as he has missed the most big chances out of every player in the division by a considerable margin, as per FotMob.

He has missed 24 big chances in the Championship so far this term, which comfortably gives him the unwanted record as things stand, with Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor and Coventry City forward Ellis Simms having missed 15 big chances each.

Considering that Luton are bottom of the Championship table and in danger of suffering back-to-back relegations, they could really do with Adebayo re-finding his goalscoring touch as soon as possible.

We asked our Luton fan pundit, Simon Mills, if he believes that Adebayo's success last season was a flash in the pan, and whether he thinks the striker will stay at Kenilworth Road beyond the summer.

"Elijah Adebayo was, and sort of still is, one of my favourite players," said Simon.

"He has been very consistent during his entire Luton Town career. We loved him - we still love him.

"What has gone wrong for him? I am not quite sure. He was magical in the Premier League, then he got an injury, and he has just not been the same since.

"I don't know if he thought in the summer that he was bang on for a Premier League move. That never happened.

"He has just not been the same since we were relegated to the Championship and I think he has really let himself down this year.

"I do not think anyone is going to be particularly motivated to take him on in the summer with the way he has played this season, but we will see."

Adebayo attracted transfer interest last summer

Following Luton's relegation to the Championship last season, a few of their key players were always likely to leave, and Adebayo was one who was on the radar of other clubs.

Ross Barkley signed for Aston Villa and Chiedozie Ogbene joined Ipswich Town in what were the Hatters' two most notable departures, with Adebayo staying at the club as they looked to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

It was reported that José Mourinho was interested in bringing Adebayo to Fenerbahçe during the summer transfer window, while he was also linked with an immediate return to the top flight, with Everton named as a potential suitor.

Now, with Luton potentially facing a return to League One following a disastrous season in the second tier, there is every chance that Adebayo will move on at the end of the season.

However, considering his underwhelming form, it will be interesting to see what sort of clubs come in for him if the club does cash in ahead of the 2025/26 season.
