Real Oviedo overcome Mirandés to return to La Liga | OneFootball

Real Oviedo, with veteran Santi Cazorla playing a key role, defeated Mirandés to return to the top flight for the first time in 24 yars.

Mirandés opened the scoring at the 16th minute when Joaquín Panichelli made his mark on the score sheet and further extended the lead from the first tie (a 1-0 win to Los Rojillos).

Shortly after, Santi Cazorla successfully converted a penalty to ensure make it 1-1  on the night and reduce the deficit on aggregate.

Upon resuming, Ilyas Chaira made it 2-1 to Oviedo (and 2-2 in the tie) when the Moroccan took advantage of a loose ball to strike powerfully, sending the fans into a frenzy.

Everything was decided in extra time, when Francisco Portillo donned the 'hero' cape.

The winger, introduced during the match, crafted a stunning goal inside the opposing area and was the final catalyst for the promotion, alongside the pitch invasion after the final whistle.

Just under a quarter of a century later, Real Oviedo will return to the top flight of Spanish football.
