Following the exit of Nacho Fernandez, Real Madrid are actively searching the market for defensive reinforcements.

Leny Yoro has emerged as the ideal long-term replacement for Nacho in central defence while Real Madrid are also eyeing a move for Alphonso Davies to reinforce the left-back slot.

While many expected Los Blancos to close out these two operations in the coming weeks, a recent report from COPE appears to suggest otherwise.

Update on Real Madrid’s pursuit of defensive duo

The report suggests that Real Madrid are not in advanced talks to sign Leny Yoro, quite in contrast to recent speculation in the media.

It was reported in the past that Real Madrid were not entirely on board with LOSC Lille’s valuation of the French centre-back and wanted to sign him for a cut-price deal.

Real Madrid are facing a similar situation with respect to the pursuit of Alphonso Davies as well. Nothing is advanced as of yet, even as the player approaches his final 12 months at Bayern Munich.

What’s next?

These are still early days in the market and Real Madrid have ample time to close out deals for these two defenders.

In fact, Real Madrid are reportedly hopeful of acquiring the services of Yoro within the next two weeks – a reasonable deadline.

The operation to sign Davies could be trickier, though, as Bayern have no desire to sell the player on a cut-price deal this summer.

Although Real Madrid remain intent on signing the Canadian international, it will be imperative for Los Blancos to reach an agreement with the Bavarians.

The next few weeks could prove to be critical as far as Davies’ future is concerned and it will be interesting to see how Bayern approach the market, amid uncertainty over the left-back’s continuity at the club.
