La Liga giants Real Madrid have encountered difficulties in their ongoing pursuit of a leading summer transfer target.
That’s according to COPE, who point towards Álvaro Carreras as the player in question.
The name of left-back Carreras has of course dominated the headlines in Spain’s capital for several weeks now.
This comes after widespread reports were forthcoming, confirming that Real Madrid had set their sights firmly on the 22-year-old’s signature.
Amid a search for left-back reinforcements to incoming boss Xabi Alonso’s squad, the brass at the Santiago Bernabéu earmarked Carreras as the ideal profile.
Talks with Benfica, in turn, were recently kicked into gear by Florentino Pérez and co.
And as alluded to above, though, such negotiations, as things stand, remain some way off bearing fruit.
In fact, as per a report from COPE, Real Madrid have seen their efforts to land Carreras ‘stall’, as Benfica continue to stand firm in their demands for the player’s €50 million release clause to be paid in full.
Though Los Blancos remain confident in ultimately landing their man, his arrival before the upcoming Club World Cup has therefore been thrown into doubt.
