Real Madrid were able to fend off the challenge from Real Sociedad this past weekend, despite having to approach the game with a depleted midfield.
The club’s struggles with injury were further compounded by the injury of another midfielder Brahim Diaz, who faces up to three months on the sidelines.
As Real Madrid look to deal with the apparent injury crisis in midfield, many expect Chema to emerge as one of the winners.
The young midfielder, who was a part of the Real Madrid squad that secured a 2-0 victory over Sociedad, is regarded highly in the camp, with many even comparing him to Rodri.
In light of growing hype over Chema, Real Madrid’s youth coach, Raul, has backed the youngster to achieve immense success with the first team.
“He has a great future for the first team,” Raul said (h/t Diario AS) while recently addressing the media personnel.
Raul’s statement is hardly a surprise given the way Chema has performed in the youth competitions.
As coach of the youth team, Raul has witnessed Chema’s abilities up close and is more than aware of the skill and technique he offers to the table.
In recent years, it has proven quite a challenge for any Real Madrid youth player to earn a breakthrough in the starting eleven.
However, Chema’s chances of making an impact this season could gain a significant boost in light of the club’s ongoing injury crisis.
After all, Los Blancos are missing several star players in midfield including the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.
Chema’s characteristics as a central midfielder who can control the game in the middle of the park, make him a handy option for coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Real Madrid look to utilise Chema’s services in the coming weeks, especially as the club look to deal with an apparent injury crisis.
