Arda Guler’s arrival at Real Madrid in 2023 was celebrated with much fanfare, more so considering that the club had beaten arch-rivals Barcelona to his signing.

However, injuries, inconsistent form, and a lack of confidence from former manager Carlo Ancelotti meant that the Turkish wonderkid was unable to showcase his potential and quality to the fullest.

Now, as MARCA reports, Guler is living one of his best moments at Real Madrid following the arrival of Xabi Alonso.

During the last two seasons, Guler had to make do with scraps in terms of opportunities, as he was only handed starts in the final stages of the season or in less decisive matches.

So, the 2025/26 season marks the start of a new story for him with Alonso giving him the role and importance he sought in the previous regime – starting all but one game at the FIFA Club World Cup, and the youngster, thus far, has delivered.

The transition into a new role in midfield has also proven to be critical as in his current position, Guler has been able to fully display his range of skills in support of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., and the rest.

In the most recent friendly against Tirol, these improvements were there for everyone to see. His assist to Mbappe showcased his innate ability to see things earlier than others. He also assumed responsibility for set-pieces, and in front of goal, the crossbar denied him twice.

Through the summer, Guler has also undergone significant physical transformation. Thanks to weeks of hard work he has gained the physical presence needed to endure the intensity of elite football.

All of this has contributed to his growth in stature under Xabi Alonso and should lay the foundation for him to take a further leap and establish himself as an integral member of this Real Madrid side.
