Following a disappointing trip to Anfield, Real Madrid return to La Liga action and will take on 17th-placed Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A few positives for Los Blancos for this match, is that Rodrygo has made a return to the squad and is expected to directly start the game.

Moreover, despite his vulnerabilities, Lucas Vazquez’ presence will offer some depth defensively. Lorenzo Aguado and Diego Aguado have also been named in the squad on the defensive front.

Eduardo Camavinga’s injury will be a set back since the Frenchman was looking in supreme form lately and even in the losses, was the best player on the pitch. This leads to a rather thin midfield being named for this match, with youngster Chema also receiving a call up.

Carlo Ancelotti went on to mention that Endrick may have a role to play in winning this match so a start for the youngster is also not being ruled out.

Furthermore, the Italian manager acknowledged the fact that one of the main reasons for the lack of goals is because the players miss too many chances on the counter attackers.

This is where Rodrygo’s presence would be useful, especially in Vinicius’ absence and Ancelotti would hope that the Brazilian hits the ground running from this match.

Madrid’s opponents, Getafe have had a poor season so far. With just 2 wins in 14 matches, they sit 17th – safe of relegation – but with the same number of points as Espanyol (13) who are in the relegation zone.

Mauro Arambarri and Luis Milla have been their standout players, with the former having scored the most goals for the club this season (4).

Former Real Madrid striker, Borja Mayoral also is part of the squad but is ruled out of the match with an injury. Alvaro Rodriguez, on loan from the Merengues may be also set for a start in Mayoral’s absence.

Winger Peter Gonzalez, who joined Getafe this season from Madrid is in line for a start as well.

Real Madrid have won the last 15 matches against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu, including last season where Jude Bellingham scored an injury time winner to seal the game.

This game is of significance, as FC Barcelona suffered a defeat at the hands of Las Palmas and the Merengues can now take a lead in the league table, if Real Madrid win this match and the game in hand against Valencia at Mestalla.

Carlo Ancelotti will not be taking this game lightly and so will no player too since they would be aware of how important a win here would be.
