As has been well established by now, Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, 26, is one of, if not the primary, targets for Real Madrid to strengthen their right-back position next season.
The Englishman will see his contract at Liverpool expire next June, and the Spanish champions’ plan is to sign him without paying a transfer fee.
Following Dani Carvajal’s injury, Real Madrid may alter their strategy and look to secure his signing in January, even if it means paying Liverpool, even though chances of that appear slim at the moment.
Now, according to reports in England, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, a meeting between Real Madrid and Alexander-Arnold’s close entourage is scheduled for January in order to accelerate the deal.
The report further explained that discussions have been ongoing for several months between the two parties and things could escalate in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Liverpool, for their part, are determined to renew their homegrown star’s contract, but so far, they have not been successful in reaching an agreement.
As per the report, the Premier League heavyweights have presented Alexander-Arnold with a four-year contract offer worth €20 million per season. However, as things stand, the player has not responded to the proposal.
As such, Real Madrid remain hopeful that Alexander-Arnold will not renew his contract with Liverpool, allowing them to sign the full-back on a free transfer in the summer.
If the move does not materialise, Los Blancos do have alternative options in mind for the right-back position, one of whom happens to be Sevilla’s Juanlu Sanchez, whom they will face in La Liga this weekend.
