In light of Alonso’s unprecedented success at Leverkusen, many European giants are mulling over a move for the Spaniard in the near future.

Alonso has confirmed he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen next season, but he could become a top target for various clubs in 2025, with Real Madrid among the clubs interested in his services.

Man City join race to sign Alonso

In a massive blow for Real Madrid, it appears even Manchester City have joined the race to sign Xabi Alonso sometime in the future.

That is according to Diario AS, which suggests that the Premier League champions want Alonso to replace Pep Guardiola, whose contract at Etihad expires in 2025.

Guardiola has enjoyed immense success during his time at Man City and it will be hard for the English club to replace him.

However, Man City believe Alonso has what it takes to replace the Catalan – both tactically and mentally.

Where will Xabi move next?

Manchester City are not the only club interested in the services of Xabi Alonso. As per the report, the Spaniard has also been courted by Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Alonso has played for both Madrid and Bayern in the past and one would expect him to prioritise a move to either of these clubs.

Spanish media has reported earlier that Alonso is gunning for a move to Real Madrid, as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti.

But as things stand, Xabi Alonso would like to focus on ending the season on a strong note, with Bayer Leverkusen in contention to win the Europa League.
