The future of Alphonso Davies still remains a talking point this summer, with Real Madrid among the clubs interested in acquiring his services.

Davies’ current contract at Bayern expires at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Bayern are trying to convince the defender to sign a new contract, but the player has stalled the negotiations, amid interest from Real Madrid.

The European champions, though, haven’t had much luck either, when it comes to finding an agreement with Bayern Munich. All of this has added to uncertainty over Davies’ future.

Fabrizio Romano’s take on Davies’ future

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has recently issued an update on the future of Davies, suggesting that the Canadian international could end up remaining at Bayern Munich.

As per Romano, there is a possibility Davies might stay at Bayern without extending his contract. This essentially means that the defender could be available on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Bayern, of course, are trying to change this. The Bavarians are trying hard to convince Davies to renew his deal, but in the event he refuses, the club do appear willing to let the player run down his contract.

Real Madrid ready to sign Davies for free

Having failed to find an agreement with Bayern this summer, Real Madrid are more than willing to wait until next summer to sign Davies on a free transfer.

The Spanish giants have some room to manoeuvre and are in no rush to reinforce the left-back unit, primarily due to the resurgence of Ferland Mendy.

The Frenchman was a top performer at Los Blancos this past season, which has helped him earn the trust of coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian tactician is more than content to continue with Mendy as the main left-back next season, with Fran Garcia serving as a potential alternative.
