Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has provided an injury update on his squad, just five days out from their upcoming showdown with Real Madrid.
Reigning tournament holders Real are primed to make the trip to Anfield next Wednesday, for a highly-anticipated Champions League showdown.
Los Blancos are not the only ones to have found themselves in the midst of a trying personnel situation in the buildup to the clash, with L:iverpool dealing with something of a mini-injury crisis of their own.
At present, the Reds are without the services of any of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa.
Speaking to the media on Friday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his squad’s fitness level was in turn put to the aforementioned Arne Slot.
And, in his response, Liverpool’s headmaster went on to confirm that attackers Jota and Chiesa have already been ruled out for next week.
Regarding shot-stopper Alisson, he added:
”Alisson has returned to training with the goalkeeping coach, not yet with the team, but he is expected to do so soon. We will wait to see how he is in shape for the match. He is getting better and better, but he is not ready to play on Sunday (versus Southampton).”
Finally, on right-back Alexander-Arnold, a known transfer target for Real Madrid, Slot concluded:
“He hasn’t trained with us yet, but he’s improving, so we hope he’ll be back soon.”
