Real Madrid may have won 4-0 today against Osasuna, which was a much-needed result after back-to-back defeats against Barcelona and AC Milan, but the result has a blemish over it. The reason? Eder Militao suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury during the first half at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Militao collapsed in the 26th minute of the match, and he was seen holding his knee in agony. A stretcher was required to remove him from the field of play, and Real Madrid’s worst fears on the matter have come true.
Diario AS have confirmed that Militao has ruptured his ACL, meaning that he will be out of action for at least nine months. It is the second injury of the sort that he has suffered in the last 15 months – back in August 2023, it was the other knee that was affected.

There is more bad news for Real Madrid, as Rodrygo Goes and Lucas Vazquez also suffered injuries during the match against Osasuna. According to Arancha Rodriguez, the Brazilian attacker will miss a month after suffering a hamstring strain, while Lucas is out for three months with an adductor problem – crucially, both will be unable to travel to Anfield for the Champions League showdown against Liverpool.
Real Madrid’s squad is being stretched thin, and especially in central defender. Militao’s injury, coupled with Aurelien Tchouameni – who has been linked with Liverpool – being out for the next few weeks too, means that Carlo Ancelotti only has Antonio Rudiger as a recognised senior centre-back option.
