Real Madrid’s main priority right now will be the Champions League final at Wembley on 1st June, but they will have their work cut out during the summer, too, with all eyes on how they navigate their squad rebuild.

While the signing of Kylian Mbappe seems inevitable alongside a few departures, there are still a few key decisions Madrid will have to make as part of their squad, starting with extensions of a lot of players.

The likes of Nacho, Lucas Vazquez, Toni Kroos, Dani Ceballos, and Luka Modric are all set to become free agents in the summer if they do not put pen to paper.

And while the situation for a most of these players is clear, Modric faces an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Modric wants to continue

Previous reports have stated that Luka Modric desperately wants to continue at Madrid, but the club are ready to move the Croatian on. They believe it is now time for him to pave the way for younger players.

Modric has ample suitors, including those from Saudi Arabia and the MLS. Even his boyhood team, Dynamo Zagreb are interested in signing him in the summer.

However, it seems Modric will do everything in his power to make a Bernabeu stay possible.

According to reports from AS, Modric is ready to accept a salary decrease and a ‘secondary role’ to stay at Real Madrid.

Modric has already played second fiddle to Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde this season, and was even below Eduardo Camavinga for most part of the campaign.

And while he was unhappy with this role, it seems he has now made his peace with it if it means continuing at Madrid.

Madrid will likely pull Jude Bellingham into midfield next season to play alongside Aurelien Tchouameni and Valverde, while Kroos and Camavinga serve as deputies. Ceballos will likely leave, which means Modric could still have a place in the squad.
