The future of Andriy Lunin appears to be away from Real Madrid with each passing day as the goalkeeper continues to delay his response to the club’s contract offer.

It is clear that Lunin is not entirely on board with his role at Real Madrid heading into the new season. As a result, he has appeared apprehensive about renewing his current contract, which will expire in 2025.

This has put a host of top European clubs on red alert, with even Premier League champions Manchester City joining the race.

Lunin’s key demand from Real Madrid

A recent report from AS has issued a key update on the future of Lunin, suggesting that the two parties are set to hold an important meeting this week.

The report adds that Lunin’s primary demand from Real Madrid is regular game-time. He wants to claim the number one position, ahead of Thibaut Courtois.

This could cause complications for Real Madrid, who are not in a position to offer the role as they consider Courtois one of the best in the world.

Lunin and his agent, Jorge Mendes, therefore, have not ruled out a potential exit from Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Mendes is expected to hold an important meeting with Real Madrid bosses this week to discuss the future of the Ukrainian international.

In the same meeting, the Portuguese superagent is likely to table a replacement for Real Madrid, in case Lunin leaves the club.

Mendes is likely to pitch Portuguese international Diogo Costa as the ideal replacement for Lunin, though it is doubtful whether Los Blancos will consider the option.

The Spanish giants are still favouring the return of Kepa Arrizabalaga, in their bid to replace Lunin next season.
