A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid played through a bout of illness in the club’s most recent outing.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Raúl Asencio as the player in question.
Stopper Asencio was for his part in from the off once more this past weekend, as Real Madrid welcomed Celta Vigo to Spain’s capital for a La Liga clash.
En route to an eventual 3-2 triumph for Los Blancos, however, the 22-year-old was hooked midway through the 2nd-half.
This change came as a major surprise to onlookers, with Asencio’s departure having been swiftly followed by Celta Vigo notching both of their goals.
Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle, Carlo Ancelotti explained:
“We changed Asencio because he couldn’t (continue) anymore.”
And now, an insight into precisely why the talented young defender was in no condition to continue has been provided.
As per a report from AS:
‘The youth player had been vomiting and having diarrhea for over 48 hours. He had lost some weight and had slept poorly the two nights before the match. Any other player, except Valverde, would have asked the manager to rest.’
