Real Madrid star Luka Modrić enjoyed a historic night on the international front on Sunday.

Modrić, for his part, was back in action in the colours of Croatia a short time ago.

Fresh off playing his part in the country’s Nations League meeting with Portugal during the week, the midfield veteran was in from the off once more, on this occasion against Poland.

And, when all was said and done, Modrić went on to prove himself the game’s decisive figure.

Early in the 2nd-half, the former Tottenham Hotspur standout – set to turn 39 on Monday – slotted home the evening’s only goal from a free-kick.

And yet, prior to as much, just by stepping foot on the pitch, Modrić had already made fresh history.

The Real Madrid captain has now racked up a whopping 180 appearances on the international stage.

This is good enough for 2nd on the list of all-time most capped European players, level with ex-Blancos teammate and close friend Sergio Ramos of Spain.

The only player now ahead of Modrić on the list is Cristiano Ronaldo, who has taken to the pitch on an eye-watering 213 occasions for Portugal.
