Real Madrid have been working on signing a new left-back this summer with Alvaro Carreras of SL Benfica being the priority target.

While the Spanish capital club hoped to close the deal for their former academy man in time for the FIFA Club World Cup, it was not to be.

The club remain determined to bring in Carreras from the Portuguese giants in the coming weeks. In order to make room for the Spaniard, Real Madrid were understood to be planning to sell one of Ferland Mendy or Fran Garcia.

And with the Frenchman out injured until October, Garcia finds himself in a precarious position with regard to his future.

But, according to MARCA, Fran Garcia remains fully calm and unfazed despite growing speculations about his future at Real Madrid.

The Spanish ace is determined to prove his value to Xabi Alonso through his daily effort and desire to grow as a player, starting with the FIFA Club World Cup, where he is the only senior left-back available.

At no point has the defender considered stepping aside, giving up, or resigning himself to the rumours. His decision is to stay and fight – to keep living the dream he has had since his earliest days at La Fabrica: playing for Real Madrid’s first team.

Garcia is not staying because of his current contract, but because he genuinely believes he can still contribute to the team.

Real Madrid, for their part, will continue to respect existing contracts and will not force players into difficult situations.

As such, unless something substantial happens, Garcia might end up staying at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, even if Carreras arrives considering Mendy’s continued absence due to fitness issues.
