Real Madrid star continues to impress with latest performance against Atletico Madrid

Although they have shone in patches, Real Madrid have still left a lot to desire with their performances throughout the season. The Merengues have not been able to beat any of the big teams they have faced this season, but earlier there was still the hope that they will start performing at their best level by February.

However, their performances have not improved even as the business end of the season approaches nearer. They have dropped points in the last two league matches they have played, while they were only able to win the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Leganes only in the very last minute of regulation time.

Key players like Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe, who was showing very promising signs in the last month, have seen a decline in their performances, and goals have rather dried up for Los Blancos.

In such circumstances, one player in the Real Madrid forward line who still continues to impress is Rodrygo Goes, who has been playing at a visibly higher level over the last few weeks. Overall, the Brazilian has scored 12 goals and provided 8 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.

However, according to FBREF statistics, 9 of these goals and 5 of these assists have come only in his last 13 appearances for the Merengue team, showcasing the good run of form the Brazilian is having.

Rodrygo was unable to get any goal or assist to his name in last night’s game against Atletico Madrid, which ended in a 1-1 draw for Los Blancos. However, he was still pivotal as he deserves a lot of credit for the only goal scored by Ancelotti’s team in that game.

The Brazilian beat two defenders to take the ball into the opposition box, before sending in a powerful cross that found Jude Bellingham. The Englishman’s shot was blocked by a defender, but the rebound fell to Kylian Mbappe, who took an accurate shot to send the ball into the left corner of the net.

Unfortunately, Real Madrid were unable to find another goal in the half-hour after this goal, and the two teams shared a point. However, Rodrygo was once again highly impressive throughout the match.

According to Sofascore statistics, during the 88 minutes he remained on the pitch, the Brazilian made 86 touches on the ball. During this time, he attempted 63 passes and successfully completed 60 of them, thus recording a 95% passing accuracy rate, despite playing against a high-pressing side, mostly in the opposition half.

He also provided 4 key passes, creating 1 big chance. However, his crossing was not as effective, as only 2 of his 7 crosses found a teammate. He was also quite successful in advancing the ball as 3 of his 5 attempted dribbles were successful.

Rodrygo was also involved in 8 ground duels with opposition players and came out on top on 6 of these occasions.

Thus, this was another highly impressive performance from the Brazilian star who continues to prove his effectiveness in a star-studded Real Madrid forward line.
