Real Madrid’s scouting network has never been short of ambition, and the name currently creating ripples around is that of Kees Smit.

The 19-year-old AZ Alkmaar midfielder is being closely followed by the Spanish giants, with many inside the club seeing him as a smart investment for the future. However, despite the admiration, a deal remains on standby for now.

According to reports in MARCA, Madrid’s hierarchy appreciate Smit’s qualities but feel it would be difficult for him to break straight into the first team.

With the midfield already packed with world-class names and Toni Kroos’s replacement plans still unfolding, there is little room for a youngster to secure regular minutes immediately.

For this reason, the negotiations have cooled, although the door has not been closed completely.

Real Madrid keeping an eye

Smit is no stranger to Madridistas. Last season, he played a pivotal role in AZ Alkmaar’s elimination of Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League, a match that caught the eyes of Madrid’s talent spotters.

Since then, his progress has been rapid. No longer a promising academy player, Smit has cemented himself as a starter for AZ’s first team, demonstrating maturity well beyond his years.

His style has been described as dynamic, with the ability to contribute effectively in both defensive and attacking phases. Coaches who have worked with him often highlight his commanding presence and relentless energy across the pitch.

For now, however, Madrid’s stance is clear that they will not rush into a signing unless there is a defined path for the youngster to grow.

What makes this story particularly interesting is that Madrid are not alone. Other clubs across Europe have also noticed Smit’s rise, and his future could become a tug of war if he continues to impress.

Still, the fact that Real Madrid are monitoring him so closely says enough about his potential. Whether the deal happens now or later, Kees Smit looks destined to remain on Madrid’s radar.
