One aspect Barcelona and Real Madrid have operated quite similarly this season is the way both clubs have backed their young prodigies in Marc Bernal and Joan Martinez.

While Barcelona are keen on renewing Bernal’s contract, Real Madrid, too, have shown immense support to defensive prodigy Martinez, despite his injury in the pre-season campaign.

The Spanish champions, in fact, were in talks with Martinez’s agent over a new contract, thus doubling down their faith in the young defender.

Real Madrid reach agreement for Martinez renewal

Now, according to The Athletic, Real Madrid are on the verge of sealing a renewal of Joan Martinez.

As per the report, the reigning European champions have reached an agreement in principle over the youngster’s new deal at Santiago Bernabeu.

Widely regarded as one of the most talented defensive prodigies in Spain, Martinez’s current deal at the club expires in 2026.

But Real Madrid are determined to seal his long-term future at the club, with the renewal set to extend his deal for three more seasons.

The club are also expected to embed a hefty €50 million release clause into his contract, in order to fend off potential suitors.

The new deal could go a long way in boosting Martinez’s confidence, as he looks to recover swiftly after undergoing successful surgery. The process may take a while, but knowing the club retain full faith in him could certainly increase the morale of the player.

The young Spaniard is expected to be out until March 2025, though no official return date has been set for the centre-back.
