La Liga giants Real Madrid have this week been afforded a boost on the personnel front.
This comes amid confirmation that a headline member of the club’s backline, in David Alaba, managed to complete the entirety of Xabi Alonso’s first pre-season training session.
Stopper Alaba has for his part spent the last few months sidelined once more.
Owing to a series of setbacks and muscular problems in the aftermath of a serious knee injury suffered late in 2023, the Austrian has taken to the pitch just 14 times in the last 18 months.
He played no part in Real Madrid’s recently-completed Club World Cup campaign, in the process missing out on a chance to convince new manager Xabi Alonso of his talents.
As alluded to above, though, early this week, the 33-year-old at last took a step in the right direction when it comes to a return to competitive action.
As per a report from journalist Alberto Pereiro of Onda Cero:
‘Alaba completed all the training and without any kind of bandage. Great news!’
Alaba ha hecho TODO el entrenamiento y sin ningún tipo de vendaje Grandísima noticia! @OndaCero_es–
