Manchester City are bracing themselves for a potential surprise approach from Real Madrid for recently-signed wide attacker Savinho, according to reports from Brazil.
Reports surrounding potential interest from the Spanish giants comes just six months after the Premier League champions welcomed the youngster to the club from fellow City Football Group side ESTAC Troyes.
Savinho is a rare ultimate success story to emerge from the City Group, who often sign players to develop with the top goal being to attract watchful interest from Manchester City, with a previous example being Oleksandr Zinchenko.
City were forced to spend big in order to fend off competition for Savinho after a stellar loan campaign with Girona last season, with his contributions in front of goal aiding the Catalan side in their successful qualification into the UEFA Champions League.
But as Savio begins to excel in Pep Guardiola’s side after a relatively uneasy opening few months at the club, his performances are already attracting interest from one of Manchester City’s biggest rivals on the continent.
That is according to the information of Brazilian journalist Andre Hernan, who reveals that La Liga giants Real Madrid are considering an investment in the Manchester City and Brazil international winger – who joined the Etihad Stadium side last summer in a £30.8 million deal.
It is pointed out that the representatives of the 20-year-old will be in Europe next week, however the idea of a pursuit for the Manchester City forward from the side of Real Madrid is ‘still in its infancy’.
One encouraging sign for Manchester City supporters desperate to see Savinho remain at the club for years to come arrived after their 2-2 draw against Brentford in midweek, when the player reflected on his start to life at the Etihad.
“I’ve still got a lot to evolve yet; I’ve got to improve my English so I can communicate better with my teammates on the pitch,” Savinho told Manchester City’s in-house media team pitch-side in west London.
He continued, “I’m still adapting but I’m happy with how it’s going and always looking to improve.”
The Brazilian’s progress in training and on the pitch, particularly in the left-wing role, as also seen him displace Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku, with Pep Guardiola explaining in a recent media conference, “They have to compete and now Savinho is in better shape and everything than Jack, and that’s why I play Savinho.”
For now, Manchester City are unlikely to comment on the rumours connecting Savinho with Real Madrid interest, although it remains to be seen whether any stronger action will be taken by Los Blancos over the forward.
