A recent report from SPORT has revealed that Real Madrid have set its sights on Manchester City’s key midfielder, Rodri, as a target for the summer of 2025.

Even though the current transfer window has just closed, Real Madrid are already planning for the next one, looking ahead to the 2025/26 season, and one of their main goals is to strengthen their midfield by bringing in Rodri.

Rodri, who was named MVP of Euro 2024, is currently under contract with Manchester City until 2027. However, he has yet to decide whether to extend his stay with the English club.

According to various sources, Rodri is considering two options: either renewing his contract with the Premier League champions or making a move to Real Madrid.

What is Real Madrid’s stance?

It is no secret that Real Madrid are eager to bolster their midfield, especially after the recent retirement of Toni Kroos, a significant loss for the team.

Additionally, Luka Modric is also expected to leave at the end of the current season, which would further deplete the midfield. If Rodri agrees to join Real Madrid, it would mean a return to his home country.

He would be one of the key signings for the 2025/26 season, along with Alphonso Davies, who is also expected to join the club after declining a contract extension with Bayern Munich, making him available as a free agent.

It must be noted that Rodri is currently valued at €130 million, according to Transfermarkt. However, by next summer, when Rodri will have just one year left on his contract, Manchester City will be in a tough position.

They will either need to renew his contract or consider selling him for a lower fee to avoid the risk of losing him for free in 2026.
