Earlier this month, Real Madrid played minnows Deportiva Minera in the Round of 32 of the Copa del Rey.

The Merengues went on to register a straightforward 5-0 victory away in Cartagena, with manager Carlo Ancelotti using the match to hand minutes to squad members who had not played much as well as youth talents.

As such, the likes of Endrick, Arda Guler, and Fran Garcia all started while two academy prospects Lorenzo Aguado and Diego Aguado made their senior debuts.

Jesus Vallejo was meant to start

Now, journalist Rodra P has come forward with an interesting revelation about things that happened leading up to Real Madrid’s clash against Deportiva Minera.

As per the report, out-of-favour Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo was meant to start in the cup tie against the RFEF Segunda Division team in Cartagena.

However, during the training session on the day of the game, the Spaniard informed the coach that he did not feel ready to play. He claimed he was not 100%, while insisting to Ancelotti that his skipping the match would not be a big deal.

However, the medical staff found no evidence of any injury or physical issue. The news caught Ancelotti by surprise. And according to what they say from the club, he was upset by this.

Interestingly, shortly after, rumours surfaced from within the club that Vallejo was seeking a move during the January transfer window – claims swiftly denied by the player’s camp.

Vallejo’s unspecified problems annoyed Real Madrid’s technical staff, as they were unable to count on him in the Copa del Rey clash, one of the few games in which the Spaniard would have received a chance to help the team.

It even led to him being left out of the squad for the trip to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup and with his contract expiring in the summer, an exit is pretty much a given.
