Liverpool are readying an €80 million bid for a long-term target in the shape of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni according to the latest reports in Spain.
Reds fans might be forgiven for experiencing a sense of deja vu on the back of the report from El Nacional with the club’s failed pursuit of Tchouameni dominating the 2022 summer transfer window.
The then-Monaco midfielder rejected Liverpool’s advances in order to link up with the Santiago Bernabeu club, signing a long-term contract until 2028.
It’s previously been reported that Liverpool maintained their interest in Tchouameni, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich.

It’s now being speculated that the knock-on effects of Kylian Mbappe’s impending free transfer could mean manager Carlo Ancelotti ripping up his current tactical blueprint in order to accommodate the France captain.
And should that happen then there will be less space for Tchouameni, who could be sacrificed this summer.
The buck stops with Ancelotti, with the Spanish outlet claiming that the manager will have the final say over Tchouameni’s future.
Waiting in the wings with keen interest are Liverpool, who are seeking to move on from the Jurgen Klopp era and are prepared to offer €80m for the defensive midfielder, according to the report.
Liverpool overhauled their midfield last summer with Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Arthur Melo all leaving the club and Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister all coming in.
Despite the incomings, the Reds still appear short of a specialist defensive midfielder for the long term and that is something the signing of the 24-year-old World Cup finalist could address.
Tchouameni is currently injured and missed the weekend’s 4-0 win over Granada for the Spanish champions although he will be hoping to be fit for the Wembley showdown against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on June 1 in the Champions League final.
The 31-cap France international played 90 minutes in the first leg of the semi final against Bayern Munich but was replaced after 70 minutes of the second leg last week at the Bernabeu.
